Festival of Lights By Subhamoy Das

Deepawali or Diwali is certainly the biggest and the brightest of all Hindu festivals. It's the festival of lights (deep = light and avali = a row i.e., a row of lights) that's marked by four days of celebration, which literally illumines the country with its brilliance, and dazzles all with its joy. Each of the four days in the festival of Diwali is separated by a different tradition, but what remains true and constant is the celebration of life, its enjoyment and goodness.

The Origin of Diwali

Historically, the origin of Diwali can be traced back to ancient India, when it was probably an important harvest festival. However, there are various legends pointing to the origin of Diwali or 'Deepawali.' Some believe it to be the celebration of the marriage of Lakshmi with Lord Vishnu. Whereas in Bengal the festival is dedicated to the worship of Mother Kali, the dark goddess of strength. Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed God, the symbol of auspiciousness and wisdom, is also worshiped in most Hindu homes on this day. In Jainism, Deepawali has an added significance to the great event of Lord Mahavira attaining the eternal bliss of nirvana. Diwali also commemorates the return of Lord Rama along with Sita and Lakshman from his fourteen year long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. In joyous celebration of the return of their king, the people of Ayodhya, the Capital of Rama, illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas (oil lamps) and burst crackers.

These Four Days

Each day of Diwali has its own tale, legend and myth to tell. The first day of the festival Naraka Chaturdasi marks the vanquishing of the demon Naraka by Lord Krishna and his wife Satyabhama. Amavasya, the second day of Deepawali, marks the worship of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth in her most benevolent mood, fulfilling the wishes of her devotees. Amavasya also tells the story of Lord Vishnu, who in his dwarf incarnation vanquished the tyrant Bali, and banished him to hell. Bali was allowed to return to earth once a year, to light millions of lamps to dispel the darkness and ignorance, and spread the radiance of love and wisdom. It is on the third day of Deepawali — Kartika Shudda Padyami that Bali steps out of hell and rules the earth according to the boon given by Lord Vishnu. The fourth day is referred to as Yama Dvitiya (also called Bhai Dooj) and on this day sisters invite their brothers to their homes.

The Significance of Lights & Firecrackers

All the simple rituals of Diwali have a significance and a story to tell. The illumination of homes with lights and the skies with firecrackers is an expression of obeisance to the heavens for the attainment of health, wealth, knowledge, peace and prosperity. According to one belief, the sound of fire-crackers are an indication of the joy of the people living on earth, making the gods aware of their plentiful state. Still another possible reason has a more scientific basis: the fumes produced by the crackers kill a lot of insects and mosquitoes, found in plenty after the rains.

The Tradition of Gambling

The tradition of gambling on Diwali also has a legend behind it. It is believed that on this day, Goddess Parvati played dice with her husband Lord Shiva, and she decreed that whosoever gambled on Diwali night would prosper throughout the ensuing year. Diwali is associated with wealth and prosperity in many ways, and the festival of 'Dhanteras' ('dhan' = wealth; 'teras' = 13th) is celebrated two days before the festival of lights.

From Darkness Unto Light...

In each legend, myth and story of Deepawali lies the significance of the victory of good over evil; and it is with each Deepawali and the lights that illuminate our homes and hearts, that this simple truth finds new reason and hope. From darkness unto light — the light that empowers us to commit ourselves to good deeds, that which brings us closer to divinity. During Diwali, lights illuminate every corner of India and the scent of incense sticks hangs in the air, mingled with the sounds of fire-crackers, joy, togetherness and hope. Diwali is celebrated around the globe. Outside India, it is more than a Hindu festival, it's a celebration of South-Asian identities. If you are away from the sights and sounds of Diwali, light a diya, sit quietly, shut your eyes, withdraw the senses, concentrate on this supreme light and illuminate the soul.

Shoaib Akhtar's Statement on Sachin Tendulkar

Now days we are watching a news which is going very famous about Pakistan former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar wrote something about Sachin Tendulkar on his Book. First I want to ask that Shoaib gave his views on his book but he is not accusing to Sachin Tendulkar and in India we have this kind of controversy we say he is Bhagwan, why we do say this kind of thoughts for people, if you people say to Sachin Tendulkar and others celebrities are like their bhagwan, so then think about Guru and Saint personalities. Infect I am observing caste systems in India till now, Sat Guru Naval is great Guru which is belong from  Rajasthan State of India, my question is that you people are not tolerating one player instead you do not think about Dharma Personalities. No doubt Sachin is great player and he is asset of world Cricket but please do not make controversy among the people. Shoaib just gave his views and everybody has rights to share their point of views, please think positive only.

Youth play vital role to development for Pakistan

Motivation for Minority Fellowship

World being global village today has thatched the distances between the people living one edge and the once on other end. In 1945 the formation of UNO was a vivid message for the troubled and problem-stricken people that they would no more suffer at the hands of ethnic, racial, religious or the capitalist majority under probed charter of the United Nations.

It was further reflected in the very first addressed of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah on August 11, 1947 in his maiden address to the constituent assembly of newly born state that all people of the country will equally enjoy the status of being on honorable citizen of the country regardless of language, race or any other token of superiority. He clearly described in his speech that people will free to go their relevant places of worship and the state will insure the respect and prestige equally earned by his citizen what ever religion, cast or ethnic majority they belong too.
Since the inflow of undemocratic norms and values, the state as been greatly under the influence of those chosen ethnic and religious orthodox, the minorities have been on a long long way struggle for their due rights since the creation of Pakistan.   Keeping in view the above mentioned facts, our organization Sat Guru Naval Foundation this among pioneers to safe guard the rights of acute of minorities to insure their exalted status and the way how to proudly make their presences felt in an effective way. The need to create such of platform for minorities was no particular implantation on the laws and regulations passed by the constituent assembly of the country where the concept of minority deteriorated to the alien citizen never even considered for their rights to be awarded. Thus the employment opportunities and the opportunities to grant them the equal status to a commoner fell flat and could not move the higher authorities keeping the minorities on the worsened state that has been a fate for these forsaken people.
Our Organization has been on the forefront to the champion the cause of the minorities to who have been denied of their rights in order to make them release that they are also equally important and useful citizens. In during that, lot off hurdles aim our way i.e. lack of education facilities, health and hygienic facilities and the opportunities to stick to their respect beliefs.
Take Hindus that make 1.7% the total population of the country, not even 10% of said population is aware of their rights, ultimately deprived of education facilities that is to play a key role in enhancing their conscious role in the development of the country coming across their valid status, specially in rural areas the oppressive and debased cast system specially in interior Sindh where per capita income of a common minority person is less than a 100 dollars per annum. So we have come to the conclusion to resolve these issues by creating awareness among the laymen in order to awaken their hidden talents to claim their right status becoming a useful citizen not only for the country but also for their community. If these minorities are educated by means of technology for example on equal basis or the vocational institutes train them different courses as per their talent, they may also serve the nation in an honorable way. In this way minorities will be promoted to a reasonable extend and feel pleased and honored to play their vital role. Our Organization has not  confined itself only to the achievement of due rights for the minorities but it has been contributing to different organizations in many different ways, by providing them the moral  and technical assistance to Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Computer Society of Pakistan, Youth Parliament of Pakistan, Pakistan Youth Organization and IEEE where as I have recently given training in IT sector for the promotion of Youth to enhance the opportunities of respectable means of earning getting a reasonable of job. Extending more, we happened to provide support to many institutions namely Shaheen Marriage Bureau, Action Committee for Human Rights, ERWSH, Christ Time newspaper, The Voice of Next Generation International Disables & Youth Welfare Association and Daily Aaj ki Awaz newspaper in order to make the voice of our oppressed minority people’s voice not only resound but also hurt effectively among the people on the helms of affair in the country.
In our several programs stressing upon the equal provision of opportunities for the minorities, we have been coordinated by some remarkable names in print and electronic media to make our voice listened. In doing so, it took us a long time to grab the attention of the media that we finally made in a reasonable way. In order to create harmony among different faiths and beliefs like ISLAM, HINDUISM, CHRISTANITY, SIKHISM, and other minority sects, we helped several meeting and seminar together to uphold the cause of our organization and scheduled fortnightly visits to Mosque, Temples, Gurudrawas and Churches etc. to authenticate the real calls behind our selfless work of our organization.
In short, under the desperate and gloomy circumstances our struggle it’s on its way never to wither down nor to be debacle what ever the hurdles on our way confront us. We are looking forward to having availed of the opportunities under your fellowship program to revolutionized and rejuvenate and our cause a fresh so that it meets its internal and ---- the provision of equal rights to minority of bright Pakistan.
